Intergenerational Mentoring (Big G Program)

WITH BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF TORONTO

Summary

BBBST is looking for mentors who are at least 55 years old to help develop intergenerational relationships as part of the Big G Program, a one-on-one mentoring program. Children that require the help and companionship that the Big G can offer are enrolled, and it focuses on recruiting early retirees for voluntary mentorship positions. The Big G Program offers mentors and mentees the chance to communicate and exchange knowledge.

Mentors in the Big G program will receive specialized asset-building training as BBBST volunteers, which they can apply with their match, their families, or other community groups. This training seeks to boost social engagement and satisfaction while reducing social isolation. Using a hybrid paradigm, volunteers can select to take part in the Community Based One-on-One Mentoring program or the In-School Mentoring program.

The process begins with developing your 'Big' fundamentals through a pre-match training session. You will learn about BBBST's different program offerings, developmental assets for youth, and child safety procedures. After all training and background checks are completed, your file will be reviewed by staff. Upon a successful review, you will be ready to start mentoring your communities youth.
